Don’t Be That Parent
Don’t be that parent that just sits in the stands or drops their kid off at practice and drives away. Don’t be the person none of the other parents know.
I’m surprised by the number of people I meet who don’t really know anybody – and they wonder why they have no business. It’s probably because they just get up, go to work and then go home. No involvement. They only socialize with a few folks at the office and maybe a neighbor or two.
If this sounds like you, how can you turn it around? Use your kids or grandkids to meet people. Heck, use someone else’s kids if you have to! Having kids has had a significant impact on my business. The amount of people I have met through them is ridiculous! But I didn’t just sit in the stands.
When you see someone else’s son or daughter do something well, complement them. Be the one that has the end of season or pool party. Be the team mom and bring snacks. Share rides with another family. Pay for a kid to play that otherwise wouldn’t have had the chance. Or maybe buy one of the players some new shoes.
If you don’t have children, become a referee or coach. My best coaches were somebody’s grandfather!
Be THAT person! Then, you win – no matter the score.
