Go Deep
If you want to go deep, look them in the left eye!
I just finished reading a great book by local author Mike Pitcher, former CEO of LeasePlan here in Alpharetta.
Mike writes about how important it is to actively listen to customers and employees. Great leaders always do this. You follow people who have your best interest at heart. Mike says, “With active listening, you participate by connecting the speaker’s words with the speaker’s body language and tone to understand the total message. Active listening is an attempt to get the full meaning of the communication.”
In Seven eLements of Leadership for a New Breed of Leader, Mike says, “When you are engaged in a deep, meaningful conversation, there are times when what is not said is more important than what is said. Picking up on this takes listening from the heart.” mikepitcherspeaks.com
When I coach, I teach people to go deeper into the conversation. Pretend you are doing an interview for a newspaper and you need to know everything.
Being better at listening and asking questions is the fastest way to get others to trust you. People have to trust you before they buy from you – or marry you!
If you want people to love you more, watch this video. If not, continue to be the same stuck up snob you have always been.
