The Art of the Introduction

I introduce people to each other all the time.  I love doing it and it pays.

So, in case you’d like to improve your professional introduction skills, here is what I think is the best way to introduce one person to another.

Let’s say someone calls you and asks if you know a good painter.  Your response should be, “Yes I do and I will have my painter call you.”

Immediately call the painter and say, “My friend Sally needs a painter and she is waiting right now for your phone call.”

This way the painter knows without a doubt you referred someone to him, Sally is more likely to use him since you had him call her, and they both are impressed that you cared enough to take the extra step.

Do this with all your referrals.  Yes, it takes a few more minutes but it also gives you a chance to talk to the painter who might have a referral for you and to plant a seed with Sally for the referral to come!
